Today the City of Berkeley's Office of Emergency Services (OES) held the first of three Community Disaster Preparedness Workshops that I highly recommend. A great deal of information was provided.
eBlock plans to use this information, along with its talks and recent meeting with the American Red Cross, to help neighbors create an emergency preparedness binder for every HH that uses our private, web-hosted communication network.
Today's workshop emphasized the importance of first looking out for ourselves and our loved ones. This, no doubt, must be the first priority. I consider an unprepared household to be a neighborhood liability, and I am the first to plead guilty to this charge.
But an integrated approach to preparedness, which recognizes that a household's preparedness is very dependent on its neighborhood's preparedness and vice versa, will ultimately better motivate and better prepare each household. Our communication networks will make this relatively easy.
So we'll press on, and we look forward to your participation, both online and offline.
