Broadly speaking, let me state the premise that's now driving how eBlock's model is evolving -- the globalization and customization of news has crowded out the kind of local news and information that energizes a community to do good work in a collaborative, productive, decision-oriented environment.
Many of us are civically engaged, but often our efforts fall on deaf ears and they engender little follow-up. Further, many who would otherwise contribute and/or participate don't find the time to become conversant in the issues, because the effort to do so is greater than our busy lives allow for.
Communities and City Governments both suffer. Their efforts to improve our social and economic existence end up being narrow-casted to the few who have the time and who are within reach. Such efforts become protracted and lead to less satisfying, if any, results.
